Jake now on display at Big Cat

This is my first blog post – yay! I decided that since I’m now trying to forego all social media that I would occasionally say something interesting about what I’m doing via a blog instead, in case any of you wanted more in-depth information about any of my work.

For those not on social media to begin with, you might have missed that Jake, my paper-mache leopard head, is now on display at Big Cat in Raleigh! Big Cat is an incredible restaurant that’s, you guessed it, cat themed, and they have a ton of amazing art on display. Southern Living wrote an article about them recently, and I was thrilled to see that Jake’s picture made the cut!

We went to go eat dinner with him there a few weeks ago and it was so much fun. The food at Big Cat is amazing and I couldn’t have dreamt up a better place for Jake to hang around. He fits right in and looks great.

Jake was my first paper-mache leopard (and honestly probably should’ve been called a jaguar for alliteration purposes but that’s fine). He’s a six-layered paper-mache on top of a mold that was then removed, so he’s hollow and very light-weight. He was painted with acrylic paints and finished with a gloss medium. Go visit him at Big Cat in Raleigh, NC!
